Business SMS: Contacts
The Contacts section allows you to manage the people and organizations you communicate with through Business SMS. You can create contacts, update contact information, import contacts in bulk, manage opt-out status, and organize your contact database.
Keeping contact information accurate helps ensure efficient communication and proper use of Business SMS features.
Adding a Contact
- Navigate to the Contacts page.
- Click New Contact in the upper-right corner.
- Complete all required fields marked with a red asterisk.
- Click Add Contact.
Your new contact will immediately be available for messaging and organization within Business SMS.
Editing a Contact
- Select the contact from the contact list.
- Update the desired information.
- Click Update Contact Details.
Changes are saved immediately and will be reflected throughout the application.
Contact Information Fields
Depending on your account configuration, contacts may include information such as:
- Name
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- Company Information
- Opt-In Status
- Consent Status
Note: While Business SMS primarily communicates through text messaging, email addresses may be useful for integrations and reporting purposes.
Managing Opt-Out Status
Contacts may choose to stop receiving automated communications. Business SMS automatically tracks these requests.
Automatic Opt-Out Keywords
A contact will automatically be marked as opted-out if they reply with:
- STOP
- END
- QUIT
- CANCEL
- UNSUBSCRIBE
Automatic Re-Subscription Keywords
A contact can opt back in by replying with:
- START
- UNSTOP
Manually Opting Out a Contact
- Open the contact record.
- Enable the Opted Out option.
- Click Update Contact Details.
Important: Contacts manually marked as opted-out will remain opted-out until they send a valid opt-in keyword.
Deleting a Contact
- Select the contact you wish to remove.
- Open the Action menu.
- Choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Warning: Deleting a contact permanently removes the contact record. Some account types may restrict contact deletion.
Importing Contacts from a CSV File
Business SMS supports importing multiple contacts at once using a CSV file.
- Navigate to the Contacts page.
- Click Import.
- Upload your CSV file.
- If your file contains column headers, select Skip First Line.
- Choose a contact list if desired.
- Click Import Contacts.
Depending on the size of the import, contacts may take several minutes to appear.
CSV Import Best Practices
- Use the sample CSV format provided by the system.
- Verify phone numbers before importing.
- Remove duplicate contacts whenever possible.
- Ensure all required fields are completed.
Deleting All Contacts
Administrators may have the ability to remove all contacts from an account.
- Open the Contacts page.
- Click the settings or gear icon.
- Select Delete All Contacts.
- Confirm the deletion.
Warning: This action cannot be undone and will permanently remove all contact records.
Best Practices
- Keep contact information up to date.
- Honor opt-out requests immediately.
- Verify imported contact lists before use.
- Avoid creating duplicate contact records.
- Periodically review and clean up outdated contacts.
