Business SMS: Drip Campaigns
Drip Campaigns allow you to automatically send a series of scheduled messages to a contact over a period of time. They are designed to help maintain communication, increase engagement, and automate follow-up processes without requiring manual intervention.
Once a Drip Campaign is applied to a contact, messages are automatically scheduled according to the intervals defined within the campaign.
What Is a Drip Campaign?
A Drip Campaign is a sequence of text messages that are sent automatically based on a schedule you define.
Unlike a Blast, which sends one message to many recipients, a Drip Campaign sends multiple messages to an individual contact over time.
Common uses include:
- Lead follow-up sequences
- Customer onboarding
- Appointment follow-ups
- Patient engagement programs
- Customer satisfaction surveys
- Educational messaging campaigns
How Drip Campaigns Work
Each message within a campaign is assigned an interval that determines when it will be delivered after the campaign is applied.
For example:
- Message 1: Send 1 day after campaign starts
- Message 2: Send 3 days after campaign starts
- Message 3: Send 7 days after campaign starts
When the campaign is applied, Business SMS automatically schedules all messages according to the intervals you have configured.
Creating a Drip Campaign
- Navigate to the Drip Campaigns section.
- Click Create New Campaign.
- Enter a descriptive campaign name.
- Click Add Drips to create your first message.
- Enter the message content.
- Select the interval for delivery.
- Repeat as necessary for additional messages.
- Click Save.
Choosing a Campaign Name
Use names that clearly identify the purpose of the campaign.
Examples:
- New Patient Follow-Up
- Customer Welcome Series
- Appointment Reminder Sequence
- Post-Service Follow-Up
- Lead Nurturing Campaign
Adding Messages to a Campaign
Each message should provide value and move the conversation forward.
When creating drip messages:
- Keep messages short and easy to read.
- Avoid repetitive content.
- Provide useful information.
- Encourage engagement when appropriate.

Applying a Drip Campaign to a Contact
- Open an active conversation.
- Click the water droplet icon in the message composer.

- Review the campaign preview.
- Click Apply Campaign.
The campaign will immediately schedule all future messages based on the intervals configured within the campaign.
Automatic Campaign Cancellation
One of the most useful features of Drip Campaigns is automatic cancellation when a contact replies.
If a contact responds before a scheduled message is delivered:
- Previously delivered messages remain unchanged.
- Future unsent messages are automatically canceled.
- The conversation can continue normally.
This helps prevent contacts from receiving automated messages after they have already engaged with your organization.
Editing a Drip Campaign
- Navigate to the Drip Campaigns section.
- Locate the campaign.
- Click View.
- Make the desired changes.
- Click Save.
Changes apply to future uses of the campaign and may not affect campaigns that have already been applied.
Deleting a Drip Campaign
- Locate the campaign you wish to remove.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Warning: Deleted campaigns cannot be recovered.
Compliance Considerations
Drip Campaigns are considered automated messaging. Before applying a campaign, ensure that recipients have provided the appropriate consent to receive automated communications.
Contacts who have opted out of automated messaging will not be eligible for Drip Campaigns.
Recipients may opt out at any time by replying with supported opt-out keywords such as STOP, END, CANCEL, QUIT, or UNSUBSCRIBE.
Best Practices
- Space messages appropriately to avoid overwhelming recipients.
- Provide value in every message.
- Keep messages conversational and professional.
- Monitor campaign performance and engagement.
- Always respect opt-out requests.
- Test campaigns before applying them to large groups of contacts.
